Here at Classic Chesterfields we are trying to educate people the difference between high quality full skin leather chesterfield furniture which we sell, and low quality, discount, cheap and budget leather chesterfields which some of our competitors sell.
There are a few ways to reduce costs on a leather chesterfield, these are to use splits or pu panels on the outsides. Strip studs instead of individual studding thus reducing labour costs. Castors instead of polished bun feet but the biggest cost saving in the manufacture of leather chesterfield furniture is to manufacture the furniture out of scrap leather - known in the furniture trade as a ‘Demic’

We do not sell or manufacture demic Leather Chesterfields. We do not use pu or splits panels, strip studs or castors All our furniture are made from the finest quality full hides.
A demic leather chesterfield is a sofa which uses the off cuts (scraps) of leather and is sewn together like a patchwork effect; it is not made from full hides of Leather.
The leather scraps is sewn together with a patchwork effect and is then applied using more buttons and smaller diamonds than that for a usual leather chesterfield.
The problem with a demic chesterfield, though, will only become apparent over time. The stitching can pull and work loose leaving holes on the sofa.
Is it a demic?
Look at the arm or back of the sofa or chair, if the last button is on top it is of full leather. If the last button is on the side it is usually a demic.

You can also check by pulling back each pleat, if there is no sewing behind every pleat then its full skin but if you find sewing behind each and every pleat then it’s a demic. Demics are cheap to purchase and are of the lowest quality.
